Exploring non-human nightlife at the Loodus/Loovus/Festival

In the summer Kia Andell visited Tartu LL through the COEVOLVERS mobility programme, in order to participate in a late evening walk led by Nelly Mäekivi and the ethnologist Hildegard Reimann, and learn about this method through personal experience. Nelly and Hildegard took the participants through several urban sites in which they stopped to keep quiet and sense the richness of non-human life we rarely come to observe in the daytime. This was an eye-opening experience as it allowed them to discover a variety of species that coexist with people in our everyday urban environments and to connect this knowledge of other species with the human perception and experience of their existence. This experience showed that visiting places can be effective in making understandable the complex relations and interactions with the non-human world that shape our common living environments. The walk was part of the programme of Loodus/Loovus/Festival that focuses on nature and art.
