New digital platformhelps address climate challenges in the Czech-Slovak border region

Thanks to the newly launched online platform Beskydyonline.eu, the cross-border Beskydy region gains a modern tool for sharing experiences with ecological and climate challenges, including measures on how to face them together. The platform connects stakeholders from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, bringing an innovative perspective to nature conservation, as well as forest and water management.

Virtual Commons Beskydy operates as an interactive shared space whose main goal is to reduce the region's vulnerability to risks associated with climate change and inefficient water management. Besides helping to overcome the geographical isolation of mountainous areas, the platform also strengthens cross-border cooperation. It makes it easier for local residents, experts, and the general public to share effective and nature-based solutions. To achieve its goals, the platform utilizes original tools:

  • Virtual tours of nature-based solutions: Interactive showcases of selected places in the Beskydy region where successful ecological solutions are already functioning.
  • Stories from the region: Powerful stories of people who care about the fate of the local landscape and are closely connected to nature.
  • Letters written by nature: Unique audio stories that symbolically bring the perspective of various animals or inanimate nature into the decision-making process.

The aim of the initiative is to contribute to smarter management of the entire region and increase the resilience of local communities to ongoing and expected climate changes. The platform was created upon the direct initiative of local stakeholders as a living tool that offers not only interesting information but also a space for the co-creation of climate policy.

The platform is the result of collaboration within the international COEVOLVERS Project, involving research institutions such as CETIP Network, s.r.o., Slovakglobe, the Institute of Forest Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV).
